Cool Mountain Forge is a two-person smithy owned and operated by Rob Mountain and Julie Kuehl in Fargo, North Dakota, USA.
Our interest in Viking Age blacksmithing has come as a result of the combination of both of our family histories. Rob’s family has a history of blacksmithing and we have his grandfather’s anvil and hammer which we currently use in our forge. Julie has recently uncovered her family’s connection to the area of the Jutland peninsula that was once the home of the Viking trading town of Hedeby.
Our forge name comes from the combination of our names: “Cool” is the proper pronunciation and meaning of Kuehl (aka, Kühl) and “Mountain” needs no translation.
